70 miles for Alzheimer
Gijs van MierloOn the 17th June, I will do a 70-mile (113km) run to raise money for Alzheimer Nederland. This is a cause very close to my heart, as I have unfortunately seen up close how this disease has affected my dear grandmother's life and that it could potentially affect other loved ones around me. It is heartbreaking to see someone slowly lose their grip on their life and that is why I want to dedicate my ultramarathon to Alzheimer Nederland.
Alzheimer's is a disease that affects many people, both those who suffer from it and their loved ones. It is a progressive and degenerative disease that affects memory, thinking ability and behaviour. It is a disease that changes not only the life of the person with Alzheimer's but also the lives of those around him or her.
By running this ultramarathon, I want to raise money for Alzheimer Nederland so they can continue their valuable work in the fight against this disease. Alzheimer Nederland is committed to research, education and advocacy for people with dementia and their loved ones.
I know running an ultramarathon is no easy task, but it is nothing compared to what people with Alzheimer's and their families go through. That is why I ask you to support me in my efforts to raise money for Alzheimer Nederland. Every donation, big or small, will help make a difference in the lives of those affected by this disease.
Thank you so much for your support! In case you are also interested in my progression and training then you can follow me on Strava: https://www.strava.com/athletes/gijsvanmierlo.
